Principality Meeting
Nov. 9, 2003

The is not an offical SCA web site
First, Her Majesty Gabriell said They were reinstituting "Regions" as reporting areas. We weren't to have events, championships, etc.
His Royal Highness Skapti reminded us that we are An Tirians and how proud we should always be for that. He also talked about the Pitfalls: The first set of officers have people fighting for the positions, very excited to volunteer. The second set of officers isn't too difficult to fill positions. By the time we need a third set, the enthusiasm has left and it is very difficult to fill positions. This will be over time, first said "3 years", then the number "ten years" came up as reasonable.

Her Excellency Callista Balgaire, Seneschal of An Tir:
This was just a brainstorming session. The first thing that will have to be done is get in the name & Heraldry. Tir Righ had so much trouble with this as a model because they didn't get it in soon enough.
Can the Region work and play well together?
There is no "Regional Identity" at this time.
The biggest deal is maintaining offices.
If the process starts, but progress isn't seen in 2-3 years, the Kingdom "cuts the cord".
Becoming a Principality is similar to being a Peer: a group is "already a Principality" they just need to be recognized. When Tir Righ was polled if it wanted to be a Principality, only 6 people said "no", the rest were in favor.
What is it you feel you are missing that a "Principality" would solve?
Is there a plan for including the outlying groups? (Baronies are where these movements usually start.)

Other comments:
This is a financially depressed area. People are traveling and active less because of unemployment. Could be trouble coming up with the travel funds and regalia.
Cranehaven Seneschal talked about the "Western Inlands" who are already getting together for regular fighters practices, etc. Starting up an "Inlands Seneschals email list".
Lots of comments about not enough travel throughout the Inlands Region by other Inlands' groups, encouragement to do that.
Lots of talk about getting more members (much talk about how to do that in Wealdsmere exclusively).
Some reported worries smaller groups have, that the work of a Principality will take away the "movers and shakers" from the small groups & without them the small groups are concerned they will not be able to maintain their status.
Their Highnesses from Avacal (past & future) said they would help us out by declaring war on the Inlands, sometime in August. (Her Avacal Highness came back in the room and kept saying to His Highness "I can't leave the room for a minute and you get us in trouble." :-D)
Reported a message from Baron Ulrick he wants to set up a polling page people type in their membership number, name & comments.
Fergus is Callista's assistant heading up an informational/research team explaining the effort and pros & cons. Fergus then summarized discussion.
