Principality MeetingsHonor War '05 |
 |
Greetings Everyone,
This is an unofficial recap of Inland CP meeting held at Honor War. Attendance was light, perhaps a dozen or so members. Baron Fergus informed us that the results of the poll were not available yet (but coming soon and would be posted here), and if the response turnout was low that a more aggressive polling would be attempted because we really need to have the true picture of the populace's opinion before moving ahead.
There was some discussion about how much work and commitment it would take for the Inlands to have a successful CP. As I understand it, steady progress must be made towards becoming a principality or CP status would be revoked. In other words, being a CP amounts to being a really big incipient shire -- move it or lose it. There was an opinion that maybe the Region should be fully functional before moving on, since the Region existed on paper. However, the drawback to that apparently is that Kingdom itself is confused on whether or not the Region is an official entity. Some of the Kingdom Officers don't seem to recognize the Region, and some do. It was suggested the talk of CP status might be confusing to the Kingdom officers about the Inlands being an official region or not -- or perhaps they are wait-and-see mode. There was a suggestion (I didn't quite follow this so I may have it wrong) that for the few officially-filled regional officers need to start accepting branch-level reports, and after gathering them all up, submitting them tidy-like as a group. The idea is to act like a region now, and proactively end the mixed messages we are sending to Kingdom about whether the Inlands sees itself as a region or not. This was thought by those in attendance to be important whether or not we end up applying for CP
status or not.
Also, it was suggested that someone on the Inlands CP Committee get a copy of all letters of intent and applications for Inland Region and/or Inland CP officer positions. This would make it so that person, would know exactly how many positions had been applied for. This person could then give a good tally to the Crown, Kingdom Officers, and populace as to the number of offices that have candidates, etc. I think it was implied that the person having a copy would keep the details of the individual applications in confidence. I am not so sure about that though.
The question of what I will call "leap-frogging" came up as well. The question was whether or not a non-branch officer could go straight to regional officer.
[Clarification from Fergus:
The person doesn't have to currently hold the position in their local group to apply for it at a Regional or CP level. All they must do is submit a letter of intent to the Kingdom Superior in charge of that office. For that matter, it is my
understanding that the Kingdom Officer could appoint someone with no experience at all, if that were their choice. Not that I believe any of our Kingdom Superiors ever would do such a thing.]
That brought up the question of officer drainage of the branches -- a point that has been discussed here in the past. The members of the group, which in my opinion was largely pro-CP, seemed to agree that one person from
each branch would not be too much of a drain. [It seems the eight great officer positions must be filled to apply for CP status.]
There was a question of whether or not the region could successfully navigate itself to principality status. The opposing opinion was that if becoming a principality is a laudable goal, then it should be pursued nonetheless because there was no great negative consequence for trying.
An opinion was expressed that working out the CP question has caused the Inland branches to be more supportive of each other.
The question of whether or not members would be more or less likely to travel if the region become a principality was brought up. One opined that that it wouldn't likely change their travelling behavior, and that the cost of gas was much more of a factor.
I am sure I left some pertinent things out and that I may mistated a detail or two. I have tried to give you a fair account of the things I was able to remember without putting anyone on the spot, or words in their mouth.
